The ABCD Framework

A = Prime (the influencing information)
B = Target (the input being processed)
C = Baseline outcome (without A)
D = Measured outcome (with A)

Three characteristics define priming:
Association — the A–B relationship
Secondariness — A is task-irrelevant
Modulation — A shifts the outcome C → D

Stroop Language Dominance Test

Experience being a participant - discover which language you process faster

Instructions / How to Play:

You will see color words written in colored ink.
Your task: Identify the INK COLOR (the color you SEE), NOT the word meaning.

Example:

RED

The word says "RED"
but the ink is BLUE

Press B for Blue

GREEN

The word says "GREEN"
but the ink is RED

Press R for Red

Respond as FAST and ACCURATELY as possible!

Stimulus (A + B Combined)

RED

In Stroop, the prime and target appear simultaneously in the same stimulus

A (Prime)
Word Meaning
The semantic content of the word - what it "says"
B (Target)
Ink Color
The visual color - what the participant must report
C
Baseline Outcome

D
Measured Outcome

Three Priming Criteria (All Met)
✓
Association
Word meaning and ink color are associated through the color concept
✓
Secondariness
Word meaning is irrelevant to the task (report ink color only)
✓
Modulation
Word meaning affects RT despite being task-irrelevant (D != C)

How data collection works

When participants complete the experiment, their results are automatically saved to a secure database:

  • Each trial is saved with: experiment_id, participant_id, trial_number, language, ink_color, word_meaning, congruent, response, correct, rt
  • Participant IDs are randomly generated
  • No personal information is collected
  • Data can be exported to CSV or Excel from the Supabase dashboard

Semantic Priming - Lexical Decision Task

Discover how word meaning spreads through your semantic memory

Instructions / How to Play:

You will see a sequence of two items:
1. First, a PRIME word appears briefly
2. Then, a TARGET appears - is it a real WORD or a NONWORD?

Example Trial:

DOCTOR

Prime (appears first)

→
NURSE

Target (real word)

Press → RIGHT for WORD

TABLE

FLIRP

Target (not a word)

Press ← LEFT for NONWORD

Evaluative Conditioning

Learn associations through repeated pairings, then rate your feelings

How This Works:

This experiment has two phases:

Phase 1: Learning

Watch pairs of stimuli appear together.
No response needed - just pay attention.

Phase 2: Rating

Rate how pleasant each stimulus feels.
Use scale 1-7 or keyboard keys.

This demonstrates how associations can change our feelings about neutral stimuli!

Evaluative Conditioning Structure

Unlike single-trial priming, EC involves a learning phase with repeated CS-US pairings, followed by a test phase to measure acquired valence.

A (US)
Unconditioned Stimulus
Positive or negative stimulus that transfers its valence
B (CS)
Conditioned Stimulus
Initially neutral stimulus that acquires valence
C
Baseline
CS rating before pairing
Neutral (~4 on 1-7 scale)
EC Effect
D - C
D
Measured
CS rating after pairing
Positive-paired: >4, Negative-paired: <4
