Where this record's text came from. faceted 2026-08 by reading the locally held text (pdftext); every evidence string verified as an exact substring of that text before merging. Method is a hybrid the suggested vocabulary does not cover: bioinformatic re-analysis of the Allen Mouse Brain Connectivity Atlas plus new anterograde (AAV1) and retrograde (CTB) tracer experiments in mice, so I used a compound label rather than forcing 'review' or 'system-or-tool-building'. Claim type is 'existence' because the deliverable is a catalogue of which connections exist and how strong they are, not a causal account. Replication status left 'untested': the paper reports internal corroboration between its two methods ('Overall, the tracing experiments showed good corroboration with our bioinformatic analysis') and flags discrepancies, but claims no external replication. Many mouse-versus-rat comparisons rest on the BAMS database rather than on named papers, so those were not turned into claim_relations. 2026-08-14 and 2026-08-25 schema-0.3 passes: every quote verified as an exact substring of the staged text and anchored at merge time; concept terms verified present; every edge endpoint an existing node.
How to read this page. The article itself is not reproduced here — this paper is not cleared for redistribution, so what follows is the tag layer alone. The evidence sentences are withheld with the article. The table at the foot lists every tag the record carries; each row names the facet it belongs to, and the whose words column says whether the tag records the paper's own wording or the tagger's sentence about the paper. Every tag links to each other paper in the corpus carrying it. The machine-readable edition of the same thing is the TEI file beside this one, where the tags live in standOff, and the article is at its publisher via the link below. When we have changed our mind. Some entries in the table begin with a word in capitals and the reason for it. EVIDENCE CORRECTED — the finding still stands, but we had quoted the wrong sentence from the paper, and the quotation has been replaced with the right one. RETRACTED — the entry itself was wrong; it stays on the page, marked, with the reason, rather than being deleted. WITHDRAWN AND REPLACED — the entry was wrong, and a corrected version of it appears in the entries below. Each mark carries its own reason, in brackets, because the reasons differ from one entry to the next. An entry we have WITHDRAWN is removed from this page and kept in the record, with its reason. A line reading Audit and a date is a later re-reading of the entry against its whole sentence: DOUBTFUL means it was kept, and the reason says what is loose about it. Quotation marks inside the tagger's sentence. Where a tag is the tagger's own sentence, a phrase in quotation marks inside it is borrowed from the paper — the tagger's wording around it is not. The paper's own sentence is the evidence quote for that row; on this page it is withheld with the article, and the article is at its publisher. Nothing inside quotation marks anywhere on this page is ours: if it is quoted, it is the paper's. Whose words a concept carries. A concept entry records a term the paper itself uses, so the term, the sense given for it, and its evidence are the paper's own words, quoted where the paper fixes them. This is the opposite of a sense entry in the tag table, which is the tagger's sentence about how the paper uses a term. Where a concept entry could not be grounded in the paper's words, the entry says so on its own row.

Tags on this paper

Every tag the record carries, each linking to every other paper in the corpus that carries it. A tag appears here whether or not its words occur in the article — the spans below are only the ones a sentence in this paper licenses. Of the 5 concept tags on this paper, all 5 are grounded in a quoted sentence.

mechanisms[2]the tagger's words
limitationsThe PPC is small and its anatomical borders are weakly agreed on in mouse, so injection targeting could be imprecise.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: every result reported for mouse PPC, and every join on that label: THE PPC IS A RELATIVELY SMALL BRAIN REGION WITH A WEAK CONSENSUS ON ANATOMICAL BORDERS IN THE MOUSE BRAIN
limitations[0]the tagger's words
limitationsFew injections were available per structure in the atlas dataset, giving incomplete regional coverage.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: the regional coverage of the atlas: A RELATIVELY LIMITED NUMBER OF INJECTIONS FOR EACH STRUCTURE ... CAN RESULT IN INCOMPLETE COVERAGE OF THE BRAIN REGIONS, WHICH MAY DISPLAY A HIGH LEVEL OF INTRAREGIONAL VARIABILITY
limitations[1]the tagger's words
limitationsThe quantified signal is axonal, not synaptic, so laminar projection patterns must be read cautiously.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: any synaptic reading of the projection patterns: THE DETECTED SIGNAL IS PRIMARILY BASED ON AXONAL STRUCTURE INSTEAD OF SYNAPTIC INPUTS PER SE
limitations[2]the tagger's words
limitationsThe LD and LP injections did not fill those nuclei, so the apparent mouse-rat thalamic difference is not yet established.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: the apparent mouse-rat thalamic difference: AS LD AND LP INJECTIONS ... DID NOT FILL THE ENTIRE LD OR LP, THE COMPLETE REGIONAL INJECTIONS OR ADDITIONAL NONOVERLAPPING SUBREGIONAL TARGETING ... ARE REQUIRED TO DEMONSTRATE A TRUE SPECIES DIFFERENCE
limitations[3]the tagger's words
limitationsTwo ways of delineating the same region are reported not to match.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: any boundary assigned to mouse PPC: even with functional retinotopic mapping using intrinsic optical imaging, voltage-sensitive dyes or Ca2+ responses, the boundaries of VISa and VISrl were not clearly defined or mismatched with the architectonic definition
limitations[4]1.0the tagger's words
limitationsInjection quality varies by structure because selection falls back through three tiers.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: any comparison of projection strengths between structures here: injections occupying over 90% of the primary structure were preferred, with fallback to 75-90% and then 50-75% where none passed
limitations[5]1.0the tagger's words
limitationsA printed result is withdrawn as an artefact on evidence the paper does not show.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: the CA3 projection signal reported here: the authors state it appears to have resulted from a false positive quantification from the path through the ventral internal capsule
limitations[6]1.0the tagger's words
limitationsThe threshold for showing a connection differs between structure classes.
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
what this limits: any connection matrix read from this paper: only connections above threshold are shown, and the threshold is not the same for cortical and thalamic structures
limitations[7]1.0the tagger's words
controlsinjections that fill the entire LD or LP, or non-overlapping subregional targeting - NOT achieved, and the paper says the comparison cannot be made without them
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.

concepts[4]the paper's words
sensesthe PPC's borders - TWO DELINEATIONS THAT DISAGREE: there is a weak consensus on anatomical borders, and the paper reports that functional retinotopic mapping did not clearly define the boundaries or mismatched the architectonic definition, so the region has two methods of fixing it and they do not agree
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
senses[0]1.0the tagger's words
sensesa selected injection - ONE OF THREE TIERS: preference is for injections occupying over 90% of the primary structure, falling back to 75-90% and then 50-75% where nothing passed, so the phrase 'representative injection' covers three grades of evidence and the result does not say which
Quotation withheld — this record is not cleared for redistribution. The sentence is in the paper at the link above.
senses[1]1.0the tagger's words
sensesa false-positive attribution - A CORRECTION WITHOUT ITS EVIDENCE: a printed projection signal is attributed to quantification of a fibre path rather than a terminal field, and the reader is asked to discount the result on that basis
